Vineland Breaks Ground on New Police Headquarters

Economic Development

by The Authority

State, regional and local officials came together today to celebrate the groundbreaking of the City of Vineland’s $20 million initiative that will result in a state-of-the-art police headquarters facility. The new complex, which will be located at 620 East Plum Street, is expected to meet current and future needs of the Vineland Police Department and the community it serves.

City of Vineland Mayor Anthony Fanucci, Cumberland County Improvement Authority CEO/President Gerard Velazquez and Cumberland County Freeholder Darlene Barber were among those officiating the groundbreaking event. Also remarking about the new project were NJ Assemblymen Bob Andrzejczak and Bruce Land.

“Completion of this project provides state-of-the-art security for the citizens of Vineland. Safety for our residents is our number one concern,” Mayor Fanucci explained. According to Fanucci, the aesthetically-appealing structure is designed to fit within the context of the residential neighborhood. “It will offer a safe and pleasing environment for both staff and visitors,” he added.

Completion of this project provides state-of-the-art security for the citizens of Vineland.

Cumberland County Freeholder Director Joe Derella stated, “This is another positive project coming to fruition in Cumberland County thanks to the hard work and cooperation of the City of Vineland and CCIA officials. It’s great to see the CCIA once again develop another multi-million dollar project that is key to the infrastructure of the county and its largest city.”

CCIA President/CEO Gerard Velazquez reported the cost of the project is expected to be approximately $20 million with completion expected in January 2019. The CCIA issued bonds on behalf of the City of Vineland for the Police Headquarters project. The City of Vineland has entered into a lease arrangement with the CCIA so that at the end of the lease period, the CCIA will transfer the title over to the City for $1.

The new 66,000 square foot facility, including 13,000 square feet of basement for storage, will accommodate police staff parking and support vehicles, public parking, the police force’s K-9 unit, plus forensics and other operations service areas. According to the architect, DI Group Architecture, the facility will be constructed using sustainable materials and utilities.
