Cameron Shapiro Named 2022-2023 New Jersey AmeriCorps Watershed Ambassador
MILLVILLE, NEW JERSEY. (October 4, 2022) –The Authority is proud to host Cameron Shapiro as the 2022-2023 Area 17 New Jersey AmeriCorps Watershed Ambassador. The Authority continues to serve as a host agency for individuals participating in the AmeriCorps New Jersey Watershed Ambassador Program (NJWAP), during their term of service. The NJWAP addresses diverse environmental needs of the state primarily through observing and studying local waterways. This is accomplished through a series of stream assessments, presentations, and partnership projects. During her time with the NJWAP at The Authority, Cameron will be responsible for the watershed management area (WMA) 17, consisting of the Maurice, Cohansey, and Salem River watersheds.
Cameron graduated from Rowan University with a B.S. in Biological Sciences and has since worked with a local, small business in the event industry. She aims to promote watershed stewardship through education and direct community involvement, and to monitor stream health through performing visual and biological assessments.
“Having grown up in the area, I am excited to serve and connect with the people of Cumberland and Salem Counties,” Cameron Shapiro, AmeriCorps NJ Watershed Ambassador, explained.
“I am looking forward to working with Cameron during her term of service as the Area 17 AmeriCorps Watershed Ambassador,” added Samantha DeFrancisco, Cumberland County Recycling and Clean Communities Coordinator. “I am excited to see her growth through her upcoming projects, trainings, presentations, and cleanups, and I am confident that The Authority will make a great host agency.”
“I look forward to Cameron’s development as a Watershed Ambassador with The Authority. The NJWAP is another great opportunity to promote environmental accountability between the Cumberland and Salem Counties,” said George Olivio, President.
