2018 Cumberland County Household Hazardous Waste/Shredding Events and Additional Collection Features Announced
Spring is here, and many residents will begin that annual ritual of cleaning garages, basements, and sheds. It’s a great time to look for opportunities to sell or donate used items in good condition thereby reducing waste, conserving landfill space, and helping to protect the environment at the same time.
For household items that are considered hazardous material, Cumberland County residents may safely dispose of them at any of the free Household Hazardous Waste and Shredding Event days sponsored by the Cumberland County Improvement Authority (CCIA) in conjunction with the City of Millville, the Landis Sewerage Authority, and the Cumberland County Utilities Authority.
The 2018 Household Hazardous Waste and Shredding Events are scheduled for April 21, June 9 and September 8 at the Solid Waste Complex on 169 Jesse Bridge Road, Rosenhayn, NJ (GPS use 169 Jesse Bridge Road, Millville, NJ 08332). Proper ID will be required at registration.
Be sure to store hazardous materials in a safe manner until the event day. There is a limit to the items that will be accepted and residents are encouraged to visit the The Authority website Recycling/Household Hazardous Waste and Document Shredding Events page.

Director of Recycling and Logistics Anthony Riviera announced additional collection stations for this year’s events. The used clothing drop-off box located at the Solid Waste Complex Convenience Center will be available for county residents to bring unwanted clothes to be donated. The CCIA partners with Turnkey Enterprises, a non-profit organization that collects used clothing for the purpose of getting clothing to governments/people that can use it. “Our hope is that more residents will take advantage of this opportunity to donate unwanted clothes to help those in need and reduce what goes into the landfill,” Riviera stated. This drop-off is available for all county residents during regular hours of operation at the Solid Waste Complex.
The CCIA will also host the Cumberland County Sheriff’s Department Mobile Prescription Drop Box. Cumberland County residents can dispose of unneeded and expired medications and keep them away from those at risk of abusing them. The Drop Box can accept solid pharmaceuticals such as pills, capsules, patches, inhalers and pet medications. There is no limit. Contact the Sheriff’s Department at 856-451-4449 or visit their website here at if you need additional information.
