Workforce Programs Meet Industry Demands

Partnerships with the County’s Workforce Development Center and Cumberland County College continues to result in the implementation of several workforce development programs.

These adult training programs are being offered by the College now and throughout the year. The programs are being developed with a focus on local industry demands through the efforts of the Department of Workforce Development.

Nine residents recently completed a Certified Production Technician course leading to the national certification awarded through the Manufacturing Skill Standards Council.

“Following a graduation ceremony, the graduates immediately began their job search by attending an on-site exclusive Hiring Event where they completed applications and interviewed with potential employers,” Allison Spinelli Executive Director, Cumberland County Department of Workforce Development explained.

The Certified Production Technician program prepares students to take an entry-level position in a wide range of manufacturing companies. “This short-term course is an excellent way for interested residents to prepare for a new career in manufacturing,” Spinelli added.

The classroom education portion of the course was held at the College’s STEAMWorks facility in Bridgeton. In addition to the classroom work, the Rutgers Food Innovation Center offered students food production training at their facility also in Bridgeton.

Over and above the additional Certified Production Technician programs, Allied Health Programs and Transportation, Logistic and Distribution Programs are being offered this year in support of local business and industry.
